Scope of Work
Global Maritime was appointed by both the underwriters and TP-OTC to provide Marine Warranty Survey (MWS) and consultancy support for Phase 2 of the Sakarya Gas Field development. The scope included installation of infrastructure to support a 10 million SCMD increase in production. This involved drilling eight new wells, installing new subsea production systems, SURF infrastructure, a floating production unit (FPU), and a new dry gas export pipeline to the onshore receiving facilities at Filyos. In addition, two new subsea wells were tied back into the existing Phase 1 production system.
Challenges
The project presented several complex risks, including unstable seabed conditions and a pipeline shore approach near the Filyos river mouth, where sediment discharge risked pipeline movement. Communications were further complicated by a mixed fleet of international and Turkish vessels, each with differing safety standards. The rapid pace of global execution, coupled with inconsistent documentation, required tight oversight from the MWS to de-risk operations and maintain full compliance throughout.
Outcome – Results and Deliverables
Global Maritime’s early involvement enabled identification and mitigation of key planning risks through technical reviews of platform weight data and contractor tenders. Strong collaboration between PEPN, GM, and HMC helped accelerate the schedule from a multi-year timeline to full removal by end-2024. Flexible weather windows were embedded into offshore procedures, ensuring contractor responsiveness to changing conditions. All platforms were removed safely and on or ahead of schedule.
Given the significant claim history of Phase 1 (not overseen by Global Maritime), our successful, claim-free delivery of the more complex Phase 2 was a clear outcome of proactive coordination and consistent underwriter engagement.
