Scope of work
The main engineering partner for the Salmar project for ‘world’s first offshore fish farm’. Involved from day one together with the farming knowledge from Salmar, bringing the idea of offshore fish farm throughout all project phases until installed and operating.
Global Maritime carried out design, engineering, yard selection, construction follow-up, all system integration, transport and installation in the period 2013-2017.
Since 2017 GM has assisted Salmar Ocean with work related to modifications and improvements
Challenges
The project was the first to bring fish farming into this size fish farm, developing all the required operations including the fish handling in the habitat. The welfare of the fish is priority number one for this type of project and a requirement to succeed.
The project was before today’s standards and guidelines, this was therefore established by the engineering team and clarified with 3rd party.
Outcome – Results and Deliverables
The Ocean Farm 1 has been in operation since 2017, the salmon thrives well in the large habitat and the ongoing farming gain relevant knowledge for the future of fish farming in exposed sea areas.
